Ontario’s next government must fix the deep-rooted health care crisis.
Increase hospital funding: The Ontario Health Coalition estimates that the hospital sector needs 5.2 per cent annual funding increases to appropriately address the province’s needs. This will address the long wait times for patients and unattainable workloads placed on health care workers.
Make time to care the law in long-term care: Establish a standard of four hours of direct care, answering the call by health care unions and advocates, and address the ballooning waitlist, which is estimated to include 30,000 people across the province that are waiting for the care they need.
Pharmacare for all: Ontario can lead the country with a universal drug plan. Pharmacare for 25 and under through OHIP+ is a good step, but partial programs cannot fix a systemic issue. Expand the prescription drug coverage to include all Ontarians.
