Price inflation has fallen significantly when compared to past years, but Canada is still in the midst of an affordability crisis. Some federal programs like $10-a-Day child care are making a big difference, but there’s still more to be done.

Here’s how the next government can increase incomes and reduce costs to improve affordability.

Our Asks:

  • Fix Employment Insurance by expanding the share of workers who qualify and increasing the income recipients receive.
  • Implement a comprehensive and publicly funded, single-payer pharmacare program that provides universal prescription drug coverage to people in Canada.
  • Introduce single step union certification, also known as card-check certification, to make it easier for workers to unionize.
  • Develop an excess profits tax to deter price gouging by corporate Canada during times of crisis.
  • Improve housing affordability by increasing investments in non-market housing, including not-for-profit and co-op housing, with a goal of creating more deeply affordable units.
