Forestry company lobbyists have been successful at removing provincial requirements to mill logs locally, eliminating thousands of
good rural jobs.

Instead, these companies rake in massive profits from public forests by selling raw logs on the open market to Asia and the U.S.

The result?

  • More than 30,000 lost jobs in 10 years
  • More than 100 mills closed since 1997
  • Pulp and paper mills starving for wood fibre supply

The BC Liberals have gambled everything on LNG, but the jobs simply haven’t materialized. The forestry sector sustainably harvests a renewable resource and must be a higher priority.

Profits without job creation means something is wrong.
